Frequently asked questions

What is IWC Amsterdam?

IWC Amsterdam (International Women's Contact Amsterdam) is a non-profit social organization that unites women from around the globe. Founded in 1973, it is an English-speaking, volunteer-run club with nearly 200 members from 38 countries, and it is free of political, religious, spiritual and commercial affiliations.

Who is eligible to join?

IWC Amsterdam welcomes women of all nationalities and backgrounds. Women of any nationality other than Dutch are welcome to join. Women who hold only Dutch nationality are eligible if they have lived outside the Netherlands within the past five years, and women who hold Dutch nationality alongside another nationality are welcome without the five-year requirement.

How can I join?

To join IWC Amsterdam, complete and submit the application form on our Apply Now page. Our Membership Officer reviews each application, and you will receive an email with further instructions.

What is the annual membership fee?

For the 2026–2027 club year, annual membership is €120, plus a one-time €15 registration fee for new members, for a total first-year fee of €135. The membership year runs from May 1 to April 30, and pro-rata fees may apply depending on when you join.

Can I join activities before I register as a member?

Yes, prospective members can try IWC Amsterdam before joining. Our Coffee Morning, held on the third Thursday of each month from 10:30 to 12:00, is open to new and prospective members. It is a relaxed way to meet our members, ask questions and find out more about IWC. Prospective members may also take part in up to two IWC activities before joining, such as Walking Talking Wednesdays, Amsterdam Dinner Group or Thirsty Thursday, depending on availability.

Where are the monthly meetings held?

The monthly meetings are held at the Koninklijk Industrieele Groote Club on Dam Square in Amsterdam. Members gather at 10:00 for tea, coffee and a guest speaker, followed by wine and conversation until about 12:30.

How often does IWC Amsterdam meet?

The main monthly meeting takes place on the first Tuesday of the month from September to May. Most interest groups meet weekly, monthly or occasionally, and they continue through the summer, so there is something happening all year.

Are there events in the evenings and weekends?

Yes. Evening events include VRIJMIBO (Friday evening drinks), Thirsty Thursday (first Thursday of the month), Hitster (third Thursday) and themed Pokeno evenings. At the weekend, ParkRun in the Amsterdamse Bos takes place on Saturday mornings at 9:00 and pickleball on Sunday afternoons.

Are there any events where my partner is able to attend?

Yes. IWC Amsterdam is run by and for women, but several activities and special events throughout the year warmly welcome partners and families, such as the VRIJMIBO Friday evening drinks.

Are there any events where I get to travel?

Yes. DIVA Monthly Outings are guided day trips throughout the Netherlands. The DIVA Christmas Market Trip and the DIVA Spring Trip Abroad are overnight guided trips, and the Spring trip goes outside the Netherlands.
