Monthly Meeting November 2016
"Not For Sale - the background story"
After 20 years’ experience as a social worker in the Red Light District of Amsterdam, Toos pioneered a prevention program for girls at risk for "loverboys", as well as a reintegration program for women wanting to leave prostitution.
After extensive research among Hungarian women she found they were ill-equipped to create a new future for themselves. In 2011 Toos became Director of Not For Sale Netherlands, aiming to provide survivors of human trafficking with education and employment opportunities; a better free future where they can make their own choices.
In 2015 Not For Sale opened two new social enterprises – a brunch restaurant providing expanded training and work opportunities to survivors, and a store in a former brothel providing a contact point in the Red Light District with both women behind the windows and awareness-raising among the 9 million tourists passing through every year.
All profits go back to sustaining the work of Not For Sale.
