History Past & Present
The International Women’s Contact Amsterdam was formed in 1973 and has been active for nearly 39 years. When Olga Samkalden, wife of the mayor of Amsterdam, decided to help women coming to the Netherlands connect with others, her intention was to promote and increase friendship among women of all nationalities living in and around Amsterdam.
The first meetings were held in member’s homes. Today we have grown out of these and our monthly meetings are held in the Industrieele Grote Club on the Dam.
We are an international club. Many of us are expatriates, our backgrounds are as diverse as our interests.
